Ripples in the Political Landscape

Jef portrait best crop2It remains to be seen who will emerge victorious from the crowded field of candidates seeking to replace retiring Senator Saxby Chambliss. What we do know is that the Democratic Party would love to have a candidate of Michelle Nunn’s pedigree on the ballot in 2014. On the Republican side, it’s nothing less than a major shake-up. Count them, three sitting Congressmen Paul Broun, Phil Gingrey, and Jack Kingston. Then there is former Secretary of State Karen Handel, businessman David Perdue, nephew of former Governor Sonny Perdue and perhaps Atlanta businesswoman Kelly Loeffler.

Only those who choose to ignore the challenges facing our nation do not recognize the broken trust between voters and elected officials. Ultimately, it all comes back to each of us individually to be good citizens, educate ourselves and participate in the election process. If we want restore trust in our Government, it must begin by citizen participation and voting in the primaries to select good candidates.

With the three Congressmen running for the Senate seat, state and local politicians are coming out in droves to replace them in the halls of Congress. The 2014 election will grow from a ripple to nothing less than Tsunami, which will change politics as we know it in Georgia. Voter’s will be awash in campaign sound bites, posturing and campaign materials. While large campaign war chests are essential to successful campaigns, there is a sense is that grassroots boots on the ground will play a much more important role in this election cycle. The most effect campaign will rely heavily on personal interaction with voters. So look for the candidates to tap into the various grassroots organizations that have found a calling in heralding their cause be it Fiscal or Social to be actively involved in winning campaigns.

Regardless of your political leanings, I urge to begin to learn about the Senate candidates. C.H.A.R.G.E., Citizens Helping America Restore Government Ethics, is holding the first Public Forum for the 2014 Senate Race, Saturday, June 29th at LaPrades Marina Pavilion on Lake Burton at 4:00pm. This is your first opportunity meet the candidates vying to be your next Senator. Forum participants will include Rep. Paul Broun, Rep Phil Gingrey, Rep Jack Kingston, Former Sec of State, Karen Handel, and David Perdue. For information https://chargeofga.wordpress.com/
